Glenys and I connected from the very first day. What began as a care relationship quickly grew into something deeper a companionship built on trust, humour, and countless small, precious moments. Over time, all her favourite places became mine too. I often found myself wondering if she truly was over ninety; her energy, her spirit, her grace, and even her beauty carried a youthfulness that many would envy.
Caring for Glenys has been one of the great privileges of my life. Although I received much praise along the way, I know that care is never a journey walked alone. It takes many hands, my colleagues, the professionals who supported us, and most importantly, her family. When a family stands behind you, it gives you the strength to keep going.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to her loved ones. Her son Gregory, whose steady presence and support made the difficult days lighter. Her sister Beryl and her brother Colin, whose messages of comfort and encouragement meant more than they may ever realise. Their kindness carried us through the moments when Glenys was at her most fragile.
Today, we honour a life well lived. In the days leading up to her passing, Glenys wore the most beautiful smile, peaceful, gentle, and full of quiet acceptance. Seeing that peace reminded me that we did everything we could, and we did it together. I have no doubt she is resting in peace.
